چکیده
vealed elevated protein level of 72 mg/dl and 3 white blood cells with no neoplastic cells, therefore providing no evidence of malignancy or CNS infection. Antiepileptic medications were started, and the patient underwent a right temporal brain and leptomeningeal biopsy. Pathology revealed idiopathic leptomeningeal inflammation and fibrosis without brain involvement. The patient improved clinically, but she returned multiple times over a 3-month period with intermittent ataxia, confusion, headaches and emesis. A ventriculoperitoneal shunt was placed for progressive ventriculomegaly. Serial imaging showed improvement in the hydrocephalus after cerebrospinal fluid diversion, but progressive leptomeningeal enhancement of the brain and spinal Case Illustration

A case of primary diffuse leptomeningeal gliomatosis predominantly involving the cervical spinal cord and mimicking chronic meningitis.
Gliomas may rarely arise in the leptomeninges without any evidence of intraaxial involvement. A case of primary diffuse leptomeningeal gliomatosis (PDLG) histologically diagnosed as oligoastrocytoma is presented. A 50-year-old woman presented with nausea, vomiting and headache. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of cranium and cervical region revealed dural thickening starting fro...
متن کاملDiffuse leptomeningeal oligodendrogliomatosis: radiologic/pathologic correlation.
We present the radiologic and pathologic findings in a boy who presented with diffuse leptomeningeal enhancement and whose clinical status deteriorated over the course of 5 years. During this period, MR images showed progression of the enhancement in the subarachnoid spaces, formation of intraaxial cysts, and hydrocephalus. Autopsy findings revealed diffuse oligodendroglioma throughout the lept...
متن کاملAddition of Anti-Angiogenetic Therapy with Bevacizumab to Chemo- and Radiotherapy for Leptomeningeal Metastases in Primary Brain Tumors
Leptomeningeal dissemination of a primary brain tumor is a condition which is challenging to treat, as it often occurs in rather late disease stages in highly pretreated patients. Its prognosis is dismal and there is still no accepted standard of care. We report here a good clinical effect with a partial response in three out of nine patients and a stable disease with improvement on symptoms in...
متن کاملSolitary Primary Leptomeningeal Glioma: Case Report
We report a case of solitary primary leptomeningeal glioma. The mass was totally removed under awake surgery. Intraoperatively, no parenchymal involvement was noted. Histopathological study revealed a predominant anaplastic oligodendroglioma component and a focal anaplastic astrocytoma component, which was consistent with an anaplastic oligoastrocytoma. Adjuvant tomotherapy was followed and the...
متن کاملNewly Identified Characteristics and Suggestions for Diagnosis and Treatment of Diffuse Leptomeningeal Glioneuronal/Neuroepithelial Tumors
Diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumor is unique for communicating hydrocephalus, diffuse leptomeningeal enhancement, cystic changes, absence of tumor cells in cerebral spinal fluid, and a cell population of both glial and neuronal copositivity. It has likely been misdiagnosed as mixed glioneuronal tumors, oligodendrogliomas, and neuroepithelial tumors. Children with signs of this tumor are ...
